DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION / REQUIREMENTS:
Programme Background
The Nepal Renewable Energy Programme (NREP) is a Government of Nepal programme funded by the British Embassy-Kathmandu (BE-K) aiming to transformational change in Sustainable Energy development in Nepal through increased private investment resulting in low-carbon economic growth and sustainable energy access for all. NREP operates in three Provinces: Madhesh, Lumbini, and Karnali. The Programme is implemented by the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) and a consortium led by DAI Global UK.
Briefly, NREP is designed to increase private sector investment to develop distributed renewable energy (RE) markets, primarily in commercial, institutional, and industrial market sectors; increase universal energy access, and a corresponding higher quality of life to Nepali citizens living in remote regions and facilitate a policy, planning, legal construct, and regulatory environment conducive to both enabling and sustaining progress in RE market development and universal energy access.
Context
With the federalization, Local Government Operations Act 2017 has mandated full authority of developing energy projects including RE projects up to 1 MW to local government. As this is the recent phenomena and it is sensed that there is a clear knowledge gap among the technical human resources for the development of such projects. This demanded a knowledge enhancement of local technical human resources (Engineers) to understand technologies, business models and support mechanism of RE projects for development of such projects. They also need to understand how RE development can support local socio-economic development, including project development cycle and available support mechanisms. The technical persons are not positioned to understand the need to support RE development, RE projects to support and decide the most effective and efficient means by which local governments (LGs) can support these projects in their respective Municipalities.
Therefore, the technical training will be an important step in helping the local technical manpower to better understand RE system design and its role in development and help in designing and developing these projects in respective municipalities.
In this context, NREP is planning to hire Consultants to design and provide training to the Engineers at LGs for the following energy systems.
- Design and maintenance of Solar Pumping system
- Design and maintenance of Micro – hydropower system
